Consumer Court Fee Calculator — Fee, Commission and Deadline

Consumer court fee in India is nil if you paid up to ₹5 lakh, then ₹200 to ₹7,500 — based on the amount you paid, not the compensation you claim. The same amount picks the forum: up to ₹50 lakh the District Commission, up to ₹2 crore the State Commission, above that the National Commission (NCDRC). File within 2 years on e-Jagriti.

The price of the product or service — not the compensation you want.

For example the delivery date, or the date the refund was refused.

How to use the result — 4 steps

  1. Use the amount you paid

Enter the price you actually paid for the product or service. The fee and the Commission depend on that amount (the value of the consideration paid), not on the refund or compensation you want to ask for.

  2. Check the 2-year deadline

A consumer complaint must be filed within 2 years from the date the problem arose, under Section 69 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. A late complaint is admitted only if the Commission accepts your reason for the delay.

  3. File on e-Jagriti

File online on e-Jagriti (e-jagriti.gov.in), the filing portal of the Consumer Commissions. Choose the Commission shown above and pay the court fee while filing; up to ₹5 lakh there is no fee.

  4. Prepare a written complaint

Write the facts in order with dates, attach the bill, payment proof and the company's replies, and say what relief you want. You can file and argue the case yourself; a lawyer is optional.

Frequently asked questions

Is the consumer court fee based on the compensation I claim?

No. Under Rule 7 of the Consumer Protection (Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions) Rules, 2020, the fee depends on the value of the goods or services you paid for. The same amount decides which Commission hears the case.

Which Commission do I file in if I paid ₹60 lakh?

The State Commission, because the amount is above ₹50 lakh and up to ₹2 crore. The court fee is ₹2,000. The fee bands and the Commission limits come from different rules, so they do not line up exactly.

Is there any fee if I paid less than ₹5 lakh?

No. A complaint where the amount paid is up to ₹5 lakh carries no court fee, and it is filed before the District Commission.

What is the time limit to file a consumer complaint?

2 years from the date the cause of action arose, under Section 69 of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. After that, the Commission admits the complaint only if it accepts the reason for the delay.

Do I need a lawyer for a consumer complaint?

No. You can file on e-Jagriti and appear yourself. Many consumers take a lawyer for complex or high-value cases, but it is not required.

Nyaykar is not a law firm and this is not legal advice. The calculator applies the published fee table and Commission limits; verify on e-Jagriti before you pay.
